Description
Glenna G. Bower is the Assistant Dean of the POTT College of Science, Engineering, and Education and the Chair and Associate Professor in the Kinesiology and Sport Department at the University of Southern Indiana (USI). She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development with a concentration in Sport Administration from the University of Louisville, an M.A. in Physical Education with a concentration in Adult Fitness from Indiana State University and a B.S. in Physical Education from the University of Southern Indiana with a minor in Psychology. Prior to entering academics, Bower served in leadership roles as an Assistant Director of Recreation Fitness and Wellness at the University of Southern Indiana, and as a coordinator of fitness programs at the corporate level including Mead Johnson Nutritionals and General Electric in Evansville, IN and Ameritech in Chicago, IL.
In addition to her broad experiences in sport and physical activity, she has taught a variety of courses including field experience in sport and physical activity, sport event management, managing organizations for sport and physical activity, sport marketing, sport promotion and publicity, sport facility management, methods of group exercise instruction, and principles and application of fitness training.
In addition to writing, A Guide to Careers and Field Experiences in Sport and Physical Activity, Bower co-edited the book Women as Leaders in Sport: Impact and Influence. Her other scholarly work includes contributions to Advancing Women in Leadership, Mentoring and Tutoring, Women Sports and Physical Activity Journal (WSPAJ),ICHPERD*SD Journal, and the Recreational Sports Journal. Bower worked the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
Bower was the recipient of several awards including the 2014 Midwest Association for College and University Physical Education (MACUPE) Scholar/Lecture Award, the 2013 Indiana Association for Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Sport Management Educator Award, the 2012 Indiana Association for Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Leadership Award, the 2009 USI Outstanding Academic Advisor Award, the 2009 National Association for Girls and Women in Sport Pathfinder Award, the 2009 Indiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD) Pathfinder Award, the 2008 American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Mabel Lee Award (highest award a young professor may receive), and the 2007 Indiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Young Professional Award.

The 3rd edition has also added a chapter on social networking on expanded to include information on skype interviews.

The chapter scenarios offer you a series of fictitious students who walk you through career exploration exercises while the frequently asked questions provides you with answers you may be seeking. The student learning activities provides hands-on assignments to reinforce each chapter while the career highlights introduce you to professionals working in sport and physical activity.
